A blog to acknowledge those who should have been acknowledged and thanked more appropriately before, and to possibly help you in your lives and career by provoking thought, reflection and reading material that might well alter your career and life. If it prompts you to contemplate and acknowledge those in your life, even better.

Acknowledgment

As I have just retired from my second career, and before jumping into the next phase, I thought it appropriate to take pause and single out those who made a demonstrable impact to either my first career (golf) or my second career (insurance / sales). Not that I want to go all Oprah on anyone, but I do want to single out those who made a difference, many of whom never knew they played a meaningful role. All my younger friends (and more technologically enabled) suggested to me that this should come in the form of a blog, so I will begrudgingly, and with some modicum of humor, slog down the blog path.

While I may have been blessed with more positive people who have made a demonstrable impact in my life, thought process, and career, I also realize that many have not been that fortunate. I want each of you to know that much can be learned from all people whether they be negative or positive so look to learn from even those who do not have your best interests at heart even if  it is a “note to self” - whatever you do, please be the antithesis of these people in all your dealings. In the large scheme of gratitude, even this group can, and should be acknowledged because if not for them, you really don’t have the perspective to appreciate those who make a difference.

My technology mentors (JP/TL) also advise that I must have a consistency of approach…really???? You mean I have to have a schedule my random thoughts and acknowledgement or do a “blog schedule”??? Okay, it shall be at least every other week. Poof, week one is nearly 2/3 done already. I am also told that I should split it up in sections or themes. Presto, here they are:
   1) The early or formative years
   2) The golf years
   3) The corporate years
   4) Misplaced others not previously characterized (just to torment my technology mentors)

I still don’t have instruction on whether I do it sequentially or randomly from my mentors, but intuition suggests it should be in some order. So while I await direction, here is the official ask of each of you initial readers as I stroll through my acknowledgement blog:

1) Share the blog posted on coach2crest.com with those who you believe might benefit from self-reflection or enjoy;

2) If you know of someone who has made a difference in your life, tell them now, and do not wait to blog later in life (I will remind you of his ask at the end of each blog)

3) if you know of any of the people I reference, please reach out to send them, their friends or their family an share a copy, as many of them I have lost track of over the years. Admittedly this is a hazard of waiting so long to do what in my case, is overdue. I am sure we will learn together, and I know I plan on learning from you (assuming I understand how all this works).

For my two dear friends (JC/NM) who  are unapologetic grammarians, here is my one and only apology in this entire series. I am truly sorry for all the miscues you will undoubtedly catch and I envy these skills that you possess, but I will not be running my thoughts through you in advance.
